Highlighter Haul

As of late, I have been having a major obsession with highlighters. There's nothing better than finishing your look with a beam of light shining from the high points of your face! It's the finishing touch that adds that extra dimension to the face that every needs. Honestly, it would be one of the best parts about putting on my makeup on. Lately, a lot of companies are coming out with new highlighters and this is my pick of the bunch that I decided to put my money on.

Here are some of my latest picks!

Essence Cosmetics Glitter in the Air Blush and Highlighter Powder

Essence is one of my favourite drugstore brands. They are extremely affordable and have some amazing products that are under $5, such as their lipliners, eyeshadows and more! I have raved about them in the past like the Matt Matt Matt Lipsticks, which are exceptional lipsticks with pigmentation, comfortable wear and great affordability. Here is another favourite adding to my list.

This product is a versatile blend of a blush and a highlighter. Depending on the colour of your skin, it would work differently to you. Since I have light-medium yellow skin, it works perfectly as a luminous blush. It doesn't have the overly intense metallic pigmentation, like the Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kits, but it has a softer and sheerer look.

It is a rosy, pink blush with a slight champagne shift to it. It is soft and gentle in texture. It is not powdery and does not have any kick up. At first, there might not be a lot of colour payoff, but it is buildable. You can layer on a few swipes for a highlighted effect, similar that of a baked highlighter or layer on more so you can have a blush to wear. This blush is far from a disappointment and incredibly affordable and so easy to find. What I also love about this product is the beautiful prism design that makes it all look so luxurious!

Anastasia Beverly Hills x Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit (Limited Edition)

I waited so long for this glow kit from Anastasia Beverly Hills and it is now in my possession! ABH and Nicole Guerriero have collaborated to create this beauty that contains six shades of highlighters that caters to literally all skin types and skin tones!

It speaks for itself on its beauty and perfection. Nicole and ABH have done a great job at great shades that not only work beautifully on their own, but work well together as blended shades. There is a mixture of cool and warm tone highlight shades, my favourite being Kitty Kat which is a rose-gold highlight.

Here are some swatches;

Left to Right: Kitty Kat ⎪ Forever Young ⎪ Daydream ⎪ Forever Lit ⎪ Glo Getter  ⎪143

As you can see, these highlighting shades are quite metallic and strong. However, it can be worn in a more softer way if you have a lighter hand - hence these are extremely buildable like every other glow kit in the range. But some shades are slightly different in texture in comparison to the original line of glow kits. For instance, Daydream, Glo Better and 143 is a little bit more chunky and more metallic and glittery, whereas the remaining shades are quite identical to the ABH formula that we know and love. Don't get me wrong, this is not a bad thing at all. The mix of soft and metallic shades makes this palette remarkably versatile. You can fix shades such as Glow Better and Forever Lit to create a softer and highly pigmented shade.

However, there are some slight flaws with the stronger shades. If you are too heavy handed with it, there is a hard surface that will appear which compromises the integrity of the formula. It is best not to swatch or apply with your fingers. A clean brush will help maintain the high quality formula. Another issue that I had was that the more glittery and metallic shades had accentuated my scars and pores quite a bit as I was building up the product. This goes for other strong highlighters as well, so best not to apply too much highlight to problem areas.

It retails for a whooping $65 AUD at sephora.com.au right now but honestly it is a bargain for six incredible shades that has great pigmentation, blendability and versatility.

Benefit Cosmetics Dandelion Twinkle Highlighter

Here's a familiar face! I recently made a post about how amazing this product is! It's a sheer and soft baked highlight that's just beautiful to wear everyday. It is one of Benefit Cosmetic's new releases and it's an absolute stunner. I just wanted to give a quick mention to it but if you're keen to learn more, click here

Unlike the ABH Glow Kits, this highlighter offers a very subtle and gentle highlight to the skin. It provides a glow from within highlight that you normally find from a baked highlighter. For comparison, it is very much like the Laura Mercier 01 Baked Highlighter, where it has a subtle sheen and radiance when applied on the skin. Should definitely check out my post for more details.

Last but not least,

Smashbox Cosmetics x Casey Holmes Spotlight Gold Palette

Smashbox Cosmetics has collaborated with YouTuber, Casey Holmes, to bring to you this palette that contains three highlighting shades suited for all skin tones. It is similarly packaged like their other face palettes, such as their contour trio, in the sleek, black plastic packaging.

Casey Holmes was known for her elaborate and extensive knowledge of products thats suited people with acne-prone oily skin and also who suffers redness. She was able to help people cross the globe to find products that aided their needs. Now she is helping people to highlight to the gods.

Here are some swatches;

Even though it doesn't swatch well, don't be fooled! It looks a lot better on the skin when applied and blended out. The formula contained in this palette are an intermediate between the ABH Glow Kits and a baked highlighter. It's not overly intense but it does give a light to buildable glow on the skin. But what's most impressive about this palette is that it does not accentuate dry patches or imperfection, that it would with the ABH x Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit. It applies as a soft, yet strong highlight that radiates a luminosity that makes your skin look healthy and glowing. It's absolutely beautiful on the skin.

There are three shades - two of which are highlighting shades and one mega sparkle shade. Similar like the Nicole Guerriero Palette, you can also mix shades to get a custom colour to your liking. By adding the third shade into the other two highlights, you get a more intense "sparkle". All three shades can be worn alone, of course, especially the first shade which is a soft, pale champagne shade with a golden shift.

This palette is just fantastic for all skin types. On the market right now, it is hard to find a highlighter that won't accentuate problem areas and this highlight just does the trick! It will be releasing soon to your local MECCA MAXIMA stores soon!

 As we speak, I had just ordered some more highlighters! Stay tuned for my blog reviews on them! Hint - I hauled some from Jouer Cosmetics and Becca Cosmetics. Can you guess what? Let me know your guesses in the comments below!

Also, special notice to my peeps, in the next week or so, I will be doing a small giveaway! Stay tuned to find out what platform it'll be on.
